Defoamer is an additive that can control existing foam in liquids, useful in different industries. Defoamers are used to eliminate the problems related to the foam formed on the surface and the air trapped in the liquid. Defoamers have a low viscosity and therefore spread quickly on foamy surfaces. Defoamers are of 3 types: silicone-based, oil-based and polymeric-based. While oil-based defoamers are used to prevent the formation of foam, silicone-based defoamers are effective in removing the formed foam. Polymeric-based defoamers are also preferred for defoaming in environments where silicone is not desired.
